"Vandy Medical Week" and upcoming surgeries

Our "Vanderbilt medical week" has come to an end!!! First, Paislee had to get a ph probe put in to monitor her reflux while she is on medication. They are checking to see if she is on the correct dosage. It is a tube they put down your nose to your stomach that has sensors that monitor everything. She had this a month ago without medication so now we are seeing if it works.
During this visit, I couldn't help but be touched and angry at the same time. They have a huge playroom in the waiting room while kids are waiting for surgery. There are all kinds of children waiting for surgeries from the minor getting tonsils removed to patients have major surgery like heart and brain. I was shocked at how parents reacted to the kids, not kids but adults. They would tell their kid not to play with certain ones if they were in a wheelchair or breathing machine if their own child was normal. I came home telling my husband and mom. I would never tell my child that. It might be because we have been there, we have had tubes in our nose and monitors hooked up. Please don't ever teach your kids not to play with someone just because they are different. After I got over my spell after listening to one parent, I looked over and was completely touched.... My child was having a tea party in the center of the playroom. There was a child with a heart monitor, nod with oxygen, one in a wheelchair, one that couldn't speak( of course it was a tea party so Paislee just spoke for him LOL) and I was so proud. She had accepted them for who they are and nothing bothered her except maybe if one would drink their tea first!!
We wore the monitor for 24 hours which was a nightmare, but we made it. The next day we had an ear doctor appointment. Paislee didn't do do well and we were told from the audiologist that she recommended a hearing aid in her left ear. I was freaking out because this is the ear she just had surgery in not long ago. So as I calm down as a million things are going through my head, it was time to see the doctor. He explained to us that part of her surgery had failed. She had her perforation from the tubes covered and when he went in, he discovered that her hearing bones were not connected, he used cement to connect them. He now believes the cement cracked and has failed. He will now go in and repair her hearing bone with titanium. This will be an added surgery and will be done after we repair the right ear perforation from the tubes. The right ear surgery is scheduled for October. If he finds that the right ear hearing bones are not connected he will bypass the cement and go straight for titanium.  We are hoping and praying this will fix the problem. Six months after that he will proceed back to the left ear and do the repairs. So we are scheduled for two surgeries. Our main goal is to restore hearing loss. This was all caused by tubes ( except for hearing bone problem) Her tubes were placed by a different doctor at a different hospital so let's say.. " we are cleaning up the damage". I felt much better leaving after all this news. Yes, it's more surgeries but I will do whatever it takes for my child and I want the very best!!! The best thing about Vanderbilt is they ALL work together. They all understand that Paislee has been poked and prodded way too many times and they try their best to help her. I highly recommend this hospital and their team of doctors to anyone and believe me, we have been to many there. Also Paislee has gained almost ten pounds since heart surgery!!! I just wish I could lose ten!! Haha.
We celebrated by staying in a hotel the second night in Nashville that had an indoor pool so Paislee could swim to her heart's desire!!
Both children go to the dentist Monday. This will be Sawyer's first time and this will be Paislee's first after heart surgery. Did you know that if you had heart surgery you have to have antibiotics before getting teeth cleaned? Paislee lives the dentist and I hope taking medicine just to go doesn't take that away. There are only a few doctors she likes right now!! We have a week break before we go back to Vanderbilt and I will soon be heading back to work so we will be enjoying every moment! We thank you all for your thoughts and prayers. We need all we can get!!
