A Lesson Learned
There are things adults may not see until a child points them out. This is exactly what happened to my husband and I. Rick and I were getting ready to go away for a night to go shopping for the kids and a much needed date night. My mom was keeping the kids. We told Paislee we were going to Nashville to stay in a hotel for the night while she stayed at her DeDes. Her reply was, " You are going to have surgery and go to the doctor". Rick and I froze in our tracks and realized what she was thinking. She has now associated the word " Nashville" with doctor and surgery. This is not good! We explained to her no doctors, no surgeries, we would see her the next day. As we went on to Nashville, Rick and I thought of a plan. We would surprise her with a trip to Nashville to a hotel with no doctors. So, we came home and Rick and I packed for the kids that night. On Monday, the kids, a friend and I went to Jackson. They had checkups at the dentist and then we just got in the car and I started driving to Nashville. I couldn't hold it in anymore and an hour left to Nashville I told her we were going to the Opryland Hotel ( thanks to teacher appreciation rates) in Nashville. I explained to her that their were no doctors and no surgeries. We pretended it was a castle. She was really excited Sawyer got to come too. We ate, went on a boat ride in the hotel, and swam and stayed up as late as we wanted. It was awesome we then set our alarms and woke up at 6:00 the next morning to swim again. We even stopped at Chucke Cheese on the way home. We had loads of fun. I hope that this helped Paislee realizea little that Nashville does not mean doctor and surgeries all the time!! Also, it also made me realize that as a parent, sometimes we need to slow down, because we have no idea what is going on in a child's mind.
