Five Doctors in One Week and Two Trips to Vanderbilt..we hit a record!

Yes, that is right. I think we have seen the most doctors this week as we ever had in one week. If you read my post from last week, you heard about our visit to the ENT and the doctor who diagnosed Paislee with the cyst above her incision. We were told we would have to have a surgeon to drain the cyst. Of course, I was very nervous so I contacted our cardiologist and he worked Paislee in Monday morning before all our scheduled procedures. So we start the day bright and early in the cardiology office tired and of course Paislee has not had anything to eat or drink. She had an echocardiogram and EKG. Of course we had the usual screams with the stickers, and then it was time for the doctor. Out of all the doctors we go to now, this is Paislee's favorite. I think it is because he just listens to her heart, the nurses do all the hard work. LOL First things first, the echocardiogram showed NO fluid around the heart. YAY It is gone! Paislee still has right ventricular hypertrophy which we are still watching and hoping with time and prayer her heart will heal. If not we are facing a surgery in which they will have to shave part of the heart muscle. Second, the cyst turned out to be a deep sternal suture knot that has made its way out. Yay. This was confirmed after the cardiologist called in the chief of cardiac surgery who performed Paislee's operation. Of course, leave it to us this is something that rarely happens. The material should dissolve over time. So please pray that this happens. The surgeon says sometimes that blood capillaries may form around it and have to be drained, but we are hoping and praying this doesn't happen. She still remains on blood thinners and aspirin.
Next visit is our procedures for the day. It was scheduled to begin at 11:30 and we didn't start until 1:30. Paislee has tons of anxiety when it comes to doctors. She was screaming and crying and didn't want to see a doctor anymore and on and on. The anesthesiologist suggested we give her medication to help relax her. So they had to give her happy juice before they took her back to give her anesthesia. It took about 20 minutes to take effect. It relaxed her which was very helpful. The gastroenterologist, pulmonologist, and the ENT doctor performed all their procedures which included a GI Scope, bronchoscopy, and several biopsies of the sinuses and fluids. She then woke up with a PH probe which is a tube that goes up her nose and down her throat to her stomach. The tube contains sensors which measures her PH level and if she throws up, etc. She had to wear this for 48 hours. You have to push a button every time she coughed, ate, took medicine, and laid down. Therefore, we were always pushing buttons.

We were so glad to go back to Vanderbilt on Wednesday to have it removed. We are still waiting on results from all of these test. So far we know that Paislee has a deep "V" around the esophagus, which means when she drinks fluid it is pouring over to her lungs which is not good at all. The pulmonologist removed some fluid. This does mean surgery, yes you heard it, ANOTHER SURGERY! More information is on its way. The next report that we received was from the pulmonologist tonight. Paislee has two types of bacteria in her lungs which have colonized. She was immediately started on strong antibiotics tonight. This is a new antibiotic she has never had so we are hoping that this will treat the problem. I was told it will not cure it, but treat it..so it could be ANOTHER surgery. The list goes on and on.
Meanwhile, my little Sawyer has been sick the past two days and has been on his nebulizer so hopefully he will be well soon.
It has been a lot going on this week and we have been to Vanderbilt twice this week. Hopefully we will have a break for one week and then its back again. The most important thing is that there are positive things that have happened which has made taking the negative a little easier. We are tired of doctors and tired of driving back and forth but it is something we just have to do. We are hoping that we are on the road to recovery and of course we never could have gotten this far without our fantastic doctors and your prayers so thank you all.
