Heart to Heart Talk with the Patient

So I told Paislee about the surgery... I had dreaded this moment ever since I found out. I have been waiting for the moment and really didn't plan to until a couple of days before. Time is flying by and we have two weeks
Paislee has a princess calendar on our refrigerator that we use and mark off days until special events. She went to a friends birthday party yesterday, so we marked it off and another friend has his birthday in two weeks. We had to put his birthday on the calendar so I decided to tell her about her surgery so we could put it on the calendar.  I told her that we would be staying in a hotel for a couple of days (with a pool), and then we would have to go to the hospital. The hotel was a great idea, but we had questions about the hospital. My child has been to several hospitals so we had to be clear which one we were going to.  It had to have fish. ( Vanderbilt has fish outside in one of the gardens we have to visit every time we go). Okay so far so good... We have hotel, we are going to see family, and then hospital with fish... Then the hard part. I explained to Paislee that she has a lump in her heart and that what was making her very tired all the time. The doctors are going to get it out and then she will feel much better. We would probably be in the hospital a week and you have a princess gown that you will get to wear and watch princess movies.  I didn't tell her how they were doing it and she didn't ask. we will go through that part with a child life specialist at the hospital. She had two questions...
Q:  Are they going to use that mask to put me to sleep because I do not like it?
A: You can tell them you just want the tube like last time. You just breathe a couple of times with it and then you will be asleep like Sleeping Beauty.

Q: If I get to be like Sleeping Beauty, can I go to Disney World after this so I can see all the princesses?
A: Umm...... (Just great, what am I supposed to say now?)
I think that would be a great idea, but you need to be six to go to Cinderellas castle. Your heart will be fixed and working great by then. We don't want to be tired when we meet all those princesses.
So yes, we will be going to Disney World next year. I just told my baby she is having heart surgery. Do you think I am going to crush her dream of meeting princesses...... I think not. Wait until I break the news to my husband!

So back to the calendar...We have hearts on our calendar on the week we are going to be in the hospital. So Paislee took the time and drew everyone that would be there. Okay that wasn't so bad, right??
I thought I had mastered this conversation and everything was clear until Rick came in the living room.
I told Paislee to tell her Daddy why we had hearts on our calendar. Her response: "Those doctors are going to take that "limp" out of my heart."
And that my friends, is how far you get when you have a heart to heart talk with a four year old.
