Just another day at the doctor........well...

I took this picture of Paislee tonight. It is probably her expression of how she felt about today. She was probably praying never to have a day like this again.
Well today was a day! I had to wake up early to get my blood work done for my endocrinologist appointment I have next week. Then I get back home and it is time to take Paislee to LeBonheur for her four month checkup with the ENT. Rick is on vacation this week so he gets to experience a doctors visit, and oh this was a great one for him!! We met with Dr. Thompson (ENT) about Paislee's tonsils. Vanderbilt feels they are getting in the way with eating and food is getting caught on them in her swallow tests that she has had. We hate to have them taken out as Paislee has gone through so much and we kinda want to give her a break. I know that might sound bad, but any surgery on Paislee is a risk due to her heart. We have been overwhelmed not knowing what to do. Our child could choke to death without getting them out or could bleed to death if she did get them out. No matter what we choose, there is a huge risk. We have had several opinions from different doctors at LeBonheur and Vanderbilt. Ultimately, it is our decision. Paislee has very, very bad reflux. The tonsils have acted like a stopper so that the acid doesn't burn her mouth. But then again, Paislee chokes all the time on solid food. I never knew that I would be faced with so many important decisions as I have had in the last three years.
Dr. Thompson told us that Paislee's tonsils are 3 plus times that size they are supposed to be at her age, but suggested that we wait just one more year, where her risk of having the surgery will go way down. Let me mention, this was after Dr. Thompson had finished, or should I say recovering, after looking at my child's tonsils. During this process,I was holding her hands with one of my hands and my other hand was holding her forehead so the doctor could get a good look. I was not holding her legs and during the screaming, Paislee proceeded to kick the doctor in a not a good place for a man. The doctor then began to look into Paislee's ears as I now was moved to a different chair holding her hands and legs and the nurse was holding her head. Paislee yelled to the doctor loud and clear.."Get away from me." Now my Paislee is usually a good little patient. She might moan and whimper, but she always does just what the doctor orders. I guess today she finally had her share and was tired. Where was Rick in all this?? He was being the good dad and watching while we were holding my child down as the doctor cleaned and cleaned her ears and was trying to get the last tube left in the right ear. Lets just say that doctor never got the last tube and will try again in another four months. So as Paislee was "released," she ran into her loving dad's arms. That is a man for you! After our lovely ordeal, we are now set up to meet with a new GI doctor in Memphis to see if he can meet Paislee's needs better than the doctor at Vanderbilt. Please pray for a good visit and calmness for my child and her parents!

We then went to eat at Huey's for great burgers and had to have a GiGi's cupcake. Yeah I know we are on a diet, but everyone needs a little sugar, heck after today we needed a drink! But as you can see, when Paislee got home tonight and after rest, she had her favorite things, her pig and a sucker and was a much, much happier little girl.
